"I want to start this review by saying that I am far from an expert. I am just a fan that was given the opportunity to share my opinion. I encourage everyone to go and read all the books that I am reviewing and form your own opinions. That is what I would do!
Synopsis:
The Forger is about a creature that has the ability to create weapons from his body. His story has been fortold and has caused much anxiety amongst the humans. It is said that the Forger has to pick a side between demons and humans and whichever side he choses will have the advantage. The story follows his journey and allows the reader to learn about all of the trials that he suffers from just existing.
Pro's:
I found The Forger to be highly entertaining. The introduction of new species grabbed my attention right from the beginning. The Forger himself was the main character (obviously!) and had the ability to create weapons directly from his body. In my opinion the creation of new species gave The Forger a unique feel and paved the way for good entertainment.
There was also the good old boys that we are all use to. Demons were plentiful and caused the expected ruckus amongst the humans. The vampires were included and had an interesting twist to add to the story. There were angels that assisted the Forger in his quest. And we can't forget the werewolf's. There were many more different types of characters but you get the idea.
The twist's and turn's that were present in this story kept my attention on it and left little room for boredom. I was enthralled with the main characters and was quite interested in their struggles and conquests. I had a difficult time putting the book down once I started. (Much to the annoyance of my better half!)
The plot line was well thought out and developed. This story did not follow along the traditional patterns. (You know how when you read a lot of books they seem very similar to many other books that you have read? I did not have that feeling with this one.)
The book gave me a distinct perspective that I would never have had on my own. The characters were unique and provided a peek at how diverse people (or creatures) really are.
Con's:
The introduction of so many characters all at once left me a little confused about who was who. When I continued reading this was cleared up with the character development that followed but there was that initial confusion.
There were many homoerotic undertones in this story. I know that some was required for the plot line but I felt that the story and the character development was definitely strong enough that it did not require the extra that was included.
Other then that I can't really think of any drawbacks.
Overview:
If it were not for the fact that I was going to be reviewing The Forger I most likely would not have read it. That would have been a real shame. All in all I enjoyed this story greatly and would recommend that others read it. (Actually I already have. My better half is scheduled to read it now that I am done.)
The emotional response that I had from reading this book was quite strong. I found myself crying many times during this story. The path that the characters were required to take was not a pleasant one. I was happy for the Forger and some of his companions a couple of times but overall the book was a sad one.
The Bottom Line: 8.5/10 Needles
