"Today's blog:Upcoming Horror Films! First and foremost I am not a movie critic(though I would like to be!),that job goes to our own Michael Skilling! I am here to review Scares Coming Your Way! And this week I would like to talk about 6 upcoming horror films soon to be released! They may all be good or they may all be zombie fodder! But one thing is for certain,Hollywood has truly embraced unleashing the horror film on us this Halloween season! Of these horror films,I chose 6 films that have peaked my own personal interests! These films include-Paranormal Activity 4!,Sinister!,Silent Hill:Revelation 3D!,The Collection!,Smiley!,and The Bay! First up we have The Bay! No! Not the retail stores, nor a documentary about how Michael Bay screwed up the Transformers! The Bay(Releasing:Nov.2/12),seems to be a mix of previously made films like Paranormal Activity and Cloverfield with their handy cam views,as well as crazed citizens like in George Romero's The Crazies,Cabin Fever,28 Days Later and Invasion of the Body Snatchers! What I got from this trailer seems to be a play on what's going on in the real world, such as the poisoning of our water, government coverups and widespread disease! The story starts in small town Maryland, the date June 9/09,birds are falling from the sky, fish are washing up in the thousands and 700 people dead! Fast forward to 3 years later and the truth has come out from an anonymous source, footage documented by eyewitnesses, captured on their iPhones and webcams, that shows a parasitic creature has taken over the bodies of their acquired hosts and have driven them mad! The film seems interesting enough for a viewing, but it's nothing that you haven't seen before! My rating is 3 Needles out of 5! Whew! Next up is Paranormal Activity 4(Releasing:Oct.19/12),What can I say about this movie that hasn't already been said about the previous 3? I know a lot of people have mixed feelings about the previous film, some liked it for it's new spin, with the witches coven, and others like myself hated it and thought it ruined the franchise! I still love the series nonetheless, and I look forward to this new installment! I'm not going to get into the scares since they're pretty much the same as always, but the plot focuses on new characters like Alice and her mother,as well as their new neighbor kid,Robbie, who just so happens to be Hunter, the child taken by his Aunt Katie! After she murdered her boyfriend Micah, her sister Kristi and Kristi's husband! I know I'll be watching this movie,I give this a biased 5 Needles out of 5! Third up is the film Smiley(Releasing:Oct.12/12),I know what you're all thinking,a movie about a pair of killer boxer shorts! Nope! In fact it's my favorite kind of horror,a slasher film! Smiley is a film about an urban legend of a serial killer named "Smiley" who wears a skin textured mask with a scarred stitched smiley face upon it! The killer can be summoned through the Internet a la Candyman or Bloody Mary I'm assuming,or maybe by someone putting too many smiley faces after every sentence! Lol! This new killer looks psychotic enough and even has the Myers head tilt down to warrant my love! I give this film 5 Needles out of 5 as well! Next on my list,is a film I've been dying to see since I first saw the trailer! Sinister(Releasing:Oct.12/12),though this movie reminds me of The Ring,The Grudge and Insidious,it still has enough ghoulish scares in the trailer to raise the hairs on my arms and on the back of my neck! The film's plot follows a crime novelist(Ethan Hawke),who stumbles upon a box of home movies he finds in the attic of his family's new home! 9 months prior to moving in,the family that lived there previously all winded up dead, seemingly killed by a recurring creature seen in the background of their family films! Our protagonist learns that this creature is an ancient pagan ghoul who lives to steal the souls of children and bringing them to his realm! Well I'm hooked! I also award this film 5 Needles out of 5! The fifth movie in my review is Silent Hill:Revelation 3D(Releasing:Oct.26/12),being someone who has never played a Silent Hill video game,I have to say that I truly loved the first film! The atmosphere and scares at the right time were phenomenal! The second film takes place 7 years later,as Heather Mason, now in high school and her father(returning Sean Bean),are constantly on the move, trying to escape the cursed town of Silent Hill! On her 18th birthday, her father disappears and she once again is thrust into the evil realm in which she and her father once escaped before! Now shot in 3D,we've got more face covered nurses, spider like creatures,ol' ax wielding pyramid head and a powerful evil little girl! Also starring Carrie Anne Moss and Malcolm McDowell, this film is sure to please and frighten! I give this 5 Needles out of 5! And lastly,my final review,The Collection(Releasing:Nov.30/12?),No,this isn't a biopic about yours truly and how my collection has buried myself and my parents alive! This movie comes from the writers of Saw 4,5,6,7! This new killer called "The Collector" seems to follow in the footsteps of our beloved Jigsaw, with his own brand of psychotic games and puzzles! Wearing what looks like the mask worn by the gimp in Pulp Fiction or a BDSM mask, and carrying a machine gun as well as having attack dogs, this new killer likes to dispatch his victims inside his own labyrinth of sick puzzles! When a girl,is taken to a secret party at a secret location by her friends, little did she know that she would become the next player in the Collector's games! After she disappears, her rich father hires a group of Merc's to find and rescue her! The mercenaries hear of a man who happens to be the only person to have ever survived the Collector's games! Will he make it out again? Will she? The merc's? I know I'll be watching to find out! Saw might be gone, but now we have The Collector! I give this a rating of 4 Needles out of 5,taking off a point for being too much like Saw! Well that does it for this weeks Scares Coming Your Way! I hope your as intrigued in seeing these films as much as me! Yours cruely,Kevin Skinner!"
