Okay ghouls, as I'm just getting back into collecting comics again, I just had to share this find with you all!
I currently have all my comics shelved upright, which I know is not the best for the spines, and it also leaves them exposed to sunlight every now and then which is a big no-no for us serious collectors. Not only this, but as I have started to purchase a few of my favorite old titles, my collection has spilled over from my shelf to paper filers on the floor which is even worse! So over the last few weeks, I have done research into how to house my comics effectively and safely. I also don't have much space to commit, so keeping this in mind I set off on the Internet in search for a solution.
I have been fighting with the concept of long and short boxes for a while. Both are good and sturdy to a point, but when you stack them, you run into trouble! If you want something in the bottom box, you have to take off all the ones above it. Not to mention that over time, moving these boxes damages their structural integrity, and can also be bad for the comics. These boxes also buckle under weight and tip and warp as you stack them! Aside from this wear and tear issue, never mind that it's bad for your back!
The solution? I have found this website that sells 'comic drawers' and will be purchasing an order later this week. It combats all the problems of the traditional long and short boxes, and it also meets all the needs I set out to satisfy. It's patented in the US, and unfortunately none of my LCS have these products available so the only way to order it is online, but I feel it is the perfect way to store your comics - both old, modern and CGC graded! Just keep in mind that you may have some trouble fitting some giant sized issues/silver/golden age comics in these boxes if you also purchase the railings as these narrow the width of the boxes when inserted. As well, if you wish to house CGC graded comics, you will need to purchase the larger size to accommodate the plastic shells.

I cannot recommend this product enough! If you need further convincing, you can go on YouTube and see what other avid collectors have to say about DrawerBoxes. I think it is an investment well worth making if archiving comics is important to you as well as maintaining order with full and uncomplicated access to parts of your collection in any point in time.
Do any of you use this product? Let me know how you care for your collection!
