"Wow, never have I ever had to dig such a deep deep hole for a film and it is exhausting! More exhausted than the producers who had to try and sell that this was a good film! Maybe it is, maybe it isn't but let's go over the points shall we as I sit on the mound of dirt next to grave and to the right of the tomb of trerasured horror.
Monster Brawl is directed and screenplay written by Jesse T. Cook, this was only his third time directing, his previous titles Scarce and Forlorn and I gotta be honest if this is any clue as to his style I'm a little hesitant to look at those other two titles. He also acted in Exit Humanity. The film features a large number of stars among them, Kevin Nash, Lance Henrikson, Art Hindle, Dave Foley, and Robert Maillet whose names themselves speak for the great things they have done. You have no idea how many times I hd to erase some thoughts and comments on this review as I am TRYING to remain unbiased at this point of the review but I gotta say it's hard.
When I first saw the previews for this film the little kid inside of me went "YIPPEE!!" cause let's face it when we were kids if we weren't playing a game with our imaginatons how many times did we wish the wolfman would sqaure off against a zombie or a dracula against frankenstein? Or some other mythological monster against another. The director obviously thought it would be a good idea to indulge and give into those childhood fantasties and bring them to the big screen. The result a gigantic piece of cheese that tangled with the WWE and spit out this film.
The premise is simple, legendary monsters fight to see who is the most powerful of them all with each monster getting a short background story to make them seem menacing. I never laughed so hard in my life at many of these backgrounds and there was much rolling of eyes. No real plot, just monster MMA with some monster pulling off movies that would make you think "Why didnt they just start off with that in the first place?" If you don't like pro wrestling, STEER CLEAR! if you love pro-wrestling...honestly, STEER CLEAR!
The good points, I really had to reach hard to find these but yeah there were a few. Despite it's premise it was kind of nice to give in to the inner child and see Lady Vampire fight the Mummy and I loved the name "Witch Bitch" especially the way Lance Henrikson said it. This is a guilty pleasure if you have absolutely nothing left to watch although I would recommend that spot of paint drying can get exciting. The Bad points, take your pick the acting was non-existent, the lack of an audience while the monsters fought greatly reduced any exciting build up, most of the costumes looked like were slapped together with whatever was in the closet at the time, there are just too many to mention, it's better for me to just dump this into the freshly dug grave cause it is NOT going to be erected in the tomb ever. I give this disappointment 2 skulls out of 10. It got one skull cause at least it tried and the other cause of the name "Witch Bitch" always made me giggle."
