"In 2004 Thailand the movie Shutter came into being and it made many people cringe, in fear!!! In 2008 the movie Shutter came into being in American and it made many people cringe...just, a horrible knock-off of the original.
The original caught my eye as this was during a time in my life when much horror was just a bitter horrible after taste as I was tricked one after another into watching something I thought was promising and ending up asking myself "What the hell was I thinking and what the hell made them think this was the least bit scarey?" Such as "Anacondas: The Hunt for Blood Orchid", "Resident Evil Apocalypse" and "Seed of Chucky". Now granted there were some good ones that year it just so happens I had the bad luck to hit the bad ones first. Anyway, that year I decided to try out foreign horror films and was extremely satisfied when I found "Shutter" from Thailand, "One Missed Call" from Japan, "The Eye" and "The Eye 2" from Hong Kong. At first I was hesitant and figured on bad CGI but after seeing "Shutter" first I haven't been that scared since I saw "Night of The Living Dead"; the original black and white when I was a kid and imagined zombies coming out of the woods around my folks house and towards me.
The 97 min long film is subtitled but speaks the universal language of fear, it turns out that a man and his girlfriend are seeing strange images in their photographs after fleeing the scene of an accident. But, of course there is more to it and to avoid spoilers let's just say that sometimes you can't out run your past.
It was one surprise after another when viewing this the ghosts appeared in the most unlikely ways it really gave me the thrills of the supernatural again, unlike a certain Emily Rose, cough cough. It keeps you full of suspense and the shots are so well done sometimes you don't even realize your being dictated to the scares until it's too late. Lastly, the final scene really made it so it was hard for me to look through a camera again for at least a few months. Enjoy, I give this little scarey ditty, 7 skulls out of ten."
